Magnetic signs for trucks, vans and cars
A magnetic sign is the easy option when a permanent decal is not. It suits a contractor who drives a personal truck to the job, a crew on leased or rented vehicles, and a seasonal business that changes vehicles. The sign goes on a clean steel door and comes off in seconds.
Pick one of three sizes, type up to three lines of text, choose the magnet and lettering colors and see it on a door at true scale before you order. The size shown is the real size of the magnet.
Before you order
- Steel only. Magnets do not hold on aluminum, fiberglass or plastic panels. Test the spot with a fridge magnet.
- Not a USDOT marking. The federal marking rule asks for a permanent marking on the vehicle. Use a USDOT number decal for that and the magnet for your name and phone.
- Want it permanent? Build a vinyl decal in the door builder or pick a custom logo design.
Questions about magnetic signs
Do magnetic signs work on every truck door?
They only hold on steel. Many pickup and van doors are steel, but some trucks have aluminum or fiberglass panels, and a magnet will not stick to those. Hold a fridge magnet to the spot first. If it grabs firmly, a magnetic sign will too.
Can a magnetic sign replace my USDOT number decal?
No. A USDOT number is meant to be a permanent marking, and a removable magnet is not a substitute for it. Use a decal for the USDOT number and the magnet for your name, phone number and trade. If you are not sure what your truck needs, check the federal marking rule (49 CFR 390.21) or ask FMCSA.
What can I put on a magnetic sign?
Up to three lines of text: your company name, a phone number or website, and a short line such as Licensed and Insured. You pick the magnet color and the lettering color and see it on a door before you order.
How do I put a magnet on and take it off?
Wash and dry the door, lay the magnet flat from the middle out and smooth it. Take it off now and then, wipe the door and the back of the magnet, and let both dry. Trapped water and dirt can dull paint over time, so do not leave a magnet on for months without lifting it.
Is the magnet one sign or a pair?
The price is per magnet. Most trucks need two, one for each door, so the quantity starts at 2. Change it to 1 if you only need one door.
What if I want the same design on permanent vinyl?
Our vinyl decals are the permanent option. You can build one in the door builder or pick a ready-made logo design, and both ship on the same terms.
