The rows fill the upper and lower parts of the shield and leave the middle open for lettering. Three centered lines inside a shield make a tight layout, so shorter names do best. The sample uses a small word on top, a longer word in the middle and a trade word below, and a name that breaks into two or three short parts follows that pattern. Long words in the middle line force the lettering smaller so it stays inside the shield. If your name is only one or two words, mention it with your order. We fit the wording to the shield and you approve a proof before printing.

Brown is dark and warm, so it reads cleanly on white, cream, tan, light gray and yellow doors, and it holds up on silver. On black, dark brown, dark green or navy paint the shield and letters lose their edge, and a red or maroon door sits too close in tone. The lettering is medium weight inside a busy pattern, so a light door helps for distance reading. The shingle rows make this a roofing mark, and it suits roofers and exterior crews.
