This layout is wide, so it likes long names. In the sample the two words run eight and ten letters, and the tall narrow letters keep them compact. The yellow bar runs between the lines, so a name goes on top and a trade word below, or one name splits across the lines. The chain hangs from the end of the top line, so the length of your first word sets where the ball lands. A proof comes before printing.

Black and yellow make a high-contrast pair, so white, silver, light gray, tan and many mid-tone doors give a clear read. The yellow bar fades on a yellow or cream door, and the black lettering and ball vanish on a black or charcoal one. The chain links are fine lines, so from across a lot the ball and chain read as one dark swing, and the lettering and bar carry the message. It suits demolition and tear-out crews.
