White truck lettering needs a dark or colored sticker behind it. See every lettering and sticker color we offer and which pairs suit each door paint.
White truck lettering is available on our decals, with one catch: it always sits on a colored sticker, because every decal we make is a solid rectangle with the lettering printed on it. White on black, blue or red reads clearly. White on white, yellow or silver does not. Choose the lettering and sticker pair first, then check it against your door paint in the live preview.
Lettering comes in Black, White, Red and Blue. The sticker background comes in White, Black, Yellow, Silver, Red and Blue. That is the whole list: no reflective, metallic or custom colors, and no decal without the background rectangle.
In the door builder, red or blue lettering adds $2 per decal and black or white adds nothing. On the product pages the price stays flat whatever colors you pick.
White lettering needs a dark or saturated rectangle behind it. Black gives it the sharpest contrast, which is why a black rectangle with white lettering is the usual look on a dark truck. Blue and red also work and carry a brand color. Skip white, yellow and silver stickers for white lettering; the builder flags those pairs as hard to read.
Black lettering suits the light stickers: white, yellow or silver. White is the plain choice. Yellow turns the decal into a bright block that stands out on a dark door. Black on black or blue gets the same warning, and black on red passes the check but reads softer.
Red or blue lettering is clearest on a white sticker. On a black, silver or yellow sticker the builder lets them through, but they read softer from a distance. Red on red or blue, and blue on red or blue, are flagged. Use these colors when they tie the truck to your logo, not because they are the easiest to read.
The lettering contrasts with its own sticker, so paint does not change how readable the pair is. It changes how the rectangle looks on the door. The preview lets you set the door to White, Silver, Black, Red or Blue.
The federal marking rule, 49 CFR 390.21, asks for letters that contrast sharply with the background they are placed on, readable in daylight from 50 feet while the truck is stopped, on both sides. On a rectangular decal that background is the sticker, which is why pair beats paint. That is our reading, not legal advice, so confirm with FMCSA or your state. The USDOT number display rules page has the summary.
A USDOT Decal Sticker carries the number alone. The USDOT + MC Two-Line Decal adds the second number, and the Make-Your-Own 5-Line takes any text. Decal widths of 12, 18 and 24 inches are covered in our guide to USDOT number size. For name decals, see company name decals for trucks, and for typefaces see our fonts and colors guide.
No. Our decals are rectangles, so the lettering is printed on a sticker color you choose. White lettering needs a black, blue or red sticker behind it to show up. We do not make cut-out letters or a clear-background option. The live preview shows how the rectangle will look on your door before you order.
Yes, in two forms. For white numbers, order white lettering on a black, blue or red sticker. For a white sticker, order black, red or blue lettering on a white background. Both come in 12, 18 and 24 inch widths. Pick the pair in the builder and check the preview first.
White, yellow or silver. White is the plain choice and yellow stands out most on dark paint. Black lettering on a black or blue sticker is flagged as hard to read, and black on red is weaker than the three light options. Check any pair against your door color in the builder.
Neither wins on its own. Black lettering reads on white, yellow and silver stickers. White lettering reads on black, blue and red ones. Readability comes from the pair, not the single color. A mismatched pair, such as white on yellow, is hard to read whichever lettering color you start from.
In the door builder, red or blue lettering adds $2 per decal, while black and white add nothing. On the product pages the price is flat whichever color and width you pick. Sticker background colors never change the price. Shipping is a flat $7.99 per order, free on orders of $99 or more.
