The classic interstate stack: USDOT over MC. Centered, spaced, 2" letters. Add GVW or CA# in the builder.
USDOT on the first line, MC number on the second, evenly spaced and centered. A compact stack for interstate carriers that want both numbers on the door without a company name block.
Need a GVW or state number as well? Add it in the builder and the stack grows to three lines. Letters are sized for the width you pick (12, 18 or 24 inches).
Vinyl is 3M / Oracal in black, white, red or blue. DIY install, and backed by the 3-year guarantee.
Who carries both numbers? FMCSA says an MC number, the interstate operating authority or docket number, is generally needed by for-hire carriers hauling regulated cargo or passengers, and not by private carriers hauling their own cargo. If you hold authority, this stack puts MC right under USDOT. If you do not, the USDOT-only decal is the simpler fit.
Type each number the way it is read, letters first: USDOT 1234567 on the top line and MC 890123 beneath it. The two lines are centered and set at the same letter size, so a shorter MC number sits tidily under a longer USDOT number. Proofread both lines twice. A transposed digit is easy to miss on a screen and hard to fix on a door.
This stack has no name line, so the carrier name has to be on the vehicle another way. For $9.01 more, the Custom USDOT Logo at $26 adds name and city lines above the same two numbers. A truck that already wears its name in paint can stay with this stack and keep the difference.
Shipping is $5.99 per order, free over $99, with tracking by email one or two days after you order. Install is DIY with a printed sheet and video link in the box. A 3-year guarantee covers a free replacement if it peels or comes off. Details: shipping, install, refunds and returns.
No. FMCSA states that no marking requirement exists for displaying an MC number, so the federal marking rule is about the name and USDOT number. Showing MC is allowed, because other identifying information may be displayed if it is not inconsistent with what the rule requires. Whether to add it is your call, so check what your lease or customers expect.
Search it on FMCSA's SAFER Company Snapshot, which accepts a USDOT number, an MC or MX number, or a company name. The Licensing and Insurance carrier search gives access to information about interstate for-hire carriers that have been granted authority or have applications pending. Copy the digits from there, not from memory.
The stack is built with USDOT first because the federal marking rule is about the USDOT number, while MC is optional extra information. If you would rather lead with MC, or put a phone number between the two, use the five-line set, where every line is free text. The USDOT number should still appear on the lettering if the marking rule applies to your vehicle.
In the door builder, each extra line such as GVW or a CA number adds $3. The builder prices line by line: $12.99 for the first number line and $4 for MC. A USDOT, MC and GVW decal therefore totals $19.99 at 12 inch width with black or white lettering in the builder, where wider widths and red or blue lettering add a little more. The four-line product page lists one price for every width.
The four-line stack is $22.99, which is $6 more, and it is built for USDOT, MC, a CA number and GVW. If you only need USDOT and MC, this stack makes a cleaner door. If you expect to add a state number or a weight line soon, ordering four lines now saves you a second order later.
