About this decal

The all-in-one door set: your business name, city, USDOT number and MC number lettered together on one decal, ready to peel and stick. It is the most complete single decal in the shop: the name and USDOT number the federal marking rule asks for, plus your MC number and city, on one clean layout.

Type your lines exactly as you want them printed and pick 12, 18 or 24 inch width, a sticker background color and a lettering color. Order two if you want both doors lettered.

Made from 3M / Oracal vinyl with printed install instructions and a video link in the package, and covered by the 3-year guarantee: if it peels or comes off, we send a free replacement.

Start with the name line, because it has to match your registration. The federal marking rule asks for the legal name or a single trade name of the carrier, as listed on its Form MCS-150, so type that and not the shorter brand your customers use. A finished stack might read RIDGELINE HAULING LLC, then Fresno, CA, then USDOT 1234567, then MC 890123. Those are sample values, so replace all four.

Two of the four lines are optional. FMCSA says its marking rule does not require a city and state, though it does not prohibit them either, and the MC line can stay empty if you have no operating authority. Dropping a line also gives the remaining ones more room on the same width, which helps when your company name is long.

Compare it with its neighbors. The USDOT-only decal carries one line and costs less, but it has no name. This set adds the name and city, so it suits a truck with nothing lettered on the door yet. If you also want a phone number, the five-line set is the step up. The four-line stack drops the name and city in favor of CA and GVW lines.

Questions about this decal

Can I use my brand name instead of my registered business name?

The federal marking rule asks for the legal name or a single trade name of the motor carrier, as listed on its Form MCS-150 registration. If your brand is a trade name you registered, use it. If it is not on your registration, put the registered name on the door and ask FMCSA how to update the record. Choose one name only, because the rule says a single trade name, not several.

My truck is leased to another carrier. Whose name goes on the decal?

FMCSA guidance says the markings of the carrier responsible for operating the vehicle must be displayed, and when two or more names are on it, the operating carrier's name is preceded by the words operated by (FMCSA). For property-carrying leases, 49 CFR 376.11 has the carrier identify the equipment during the lease. Ask that carrier what it wants on your door before you order.

Is one Custom USDOT Logo decal enough for the whole truck?

The marking rule asks for the name and USDOT number on both sides of the self-propelled vehicle, so a truck normally needs two matching decals, one per door. The price is per decal, so set the quantity to 2 for a pair. A second truck needs its own pair. Trailers are a separate question, answered in our guide to DOT requirements for trailers.

Which sticker and lettering colors read well on a dark door?

The rule asks for letters that contrast sharply with the background they sit on. On this decal the letters sit on the sticker, so the pairing of sticker and lettering colors does the work and the door paint matters less. Black lettering on a white or yellow sticker, or white lettering on a black sticker, are strong pairings. Try a few in the live preview before you order.

Does this decal include my own logo artwork?

No. The Custom USDOT Logo is lettering: the name, city, USDOT and MC lines you type, printed on a solid colored rectangle.
