USDOT on top and your KYU number below, for Kentucky trucks. Type both, preview on a door, order. $22.99 per decal.
A two-line decal for a Kentucky truck: USDOT on top and your KYU number underneath, printed as one solid rectangle. KYU is Kentucky's weight-distance tax license, issued by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to carriers that travel Kentucky roadways with a combined license weight greater than 59,999 pounds. This product is for carriers that show a USDOT number and a KYU number but no MC line. Type both numbers, check the preview on a truck door, and order.
Weight decides whether a truck falls under KYU, not the kind of body it has. The Cabinet's weight table lists the KYU license for combined license weights of 60,000 to 80,000 pounds, for intrastate and interstate carriers alike. Its definition of combined license weight counts any towed unit, and the higher of the declared figure and the highest actual combined gross weight on Kentucky highways for the registration period is the one that counts. The Cabinet's KYU page and its intrastate and interstate page give the details, and our KYU number guide explains them in plain words.
KYU and USDOT are two numbers from two agencies. KYU is Kentucky's tax license. USDOT is the federal identifier FMCSA issues, and the Cabinet itself says carriers running vehicles of 10,001 pounds GVWR or more in Kentucky need a USDOT number and must display it. That is why the top line here is USDOT. A proposed amendment to the Kentucky regulation would change the wording on showing the KYU number. We have not confirmed whether that amendment is in force, so how Kentucky wants the KYU number handled is a question for the Cabinet. The regulation text on the Kentucky Legislature site shows the current and proposed wording side by side.
Enter the federal number on top, with USDOT in front of it, then the KYU number with KYU in front. The builder sample is USDOT 1234567 over KYU 123456, and each line takes up to 24 characters. Widths run 12, 18 or 24 inches, and those are decal sizes rather than a legal size. Backgrounds come in White, Black, Yellow, Silver, Red or Blue, with lettering in Black, White, Red or Blue. Each decal is $22.99, and the Set of 2 is $45.98 for two matching decals. If you want each line cut close around its own lettering, add the Contour cut for $5 per decal. A decal that peels or comes off is replaced free for three years, and installation is DIY with the printed sheet and the video link.
Shipping is $7.99 per order, free over $99, with tracking by email one or two days after you order. Install is DIY with a printed sheet and video link in the box. A 3-year guarantee covers a free replacement if it peels or comes off. Details: shipping, install, refunds and returns.
Two lines, both required on this product. The top line is USDOT and your federal number, and the second line is KYU and your Kentucky KYU number. The builder sample is USDOT 1234567 over KYU 123456, and each line takes up to 24 characters. No company name, city or phone number prints on it. You see both lines on a truck door in the live preview before you pay $22.99 per decal, so proofread each digit against your paperwork first.
We will not answer that for you. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet administers KYU, and the regulation that covers the number has a proposed amendment that changes its display wording. We have not confirmed which wording is in force. Ask the Cabinet's Division of Motor Carriers in writing, keep the reply with your paperwork, and use its answer for your own truck. This decal prints the number you type either way, and it does not decide the question for you.
No. KYU is a Kentucky tax license, and USDOT is the federal identifier FMCSA issues. The Cabinet's carrier page sets the USDOT threshold at 10,001 pounds GVWR or more, so a KYU line never replaces the USDOT line, and the USDOT Decal Sticker prints that line alone. Kentucky also lists a separate KIT license for some intrastate trucks, so ask the Cabinet which license applies. Its carrier requirements page has the weight table, and our state requirements guide is a starting point.
Yes, according to the Cabinet. Its KYU page says the license requires quarterly tax filings even when there is no travel, so a quarter with zero miles still needs a filing. It also says every qualified vehicle must be on the KYU inventory to avoid citations. A decal files nothing for you, so keep your filing calendar and your vehicle list current, and ask the Cabinet what to do when a truck is added or sold.
The Cabinet's KYU page says farm-plate vehicles are exempt from the KYU tax. Ask the Cabinet how that exemption applies to your truck before you assume it covers you, especially if the truck also runs for hire or crosses into other states. The decal does not change your tax status either way. For lettering layouts on agricultural trucks, see our farm truck decals page.
