USDOT on top and your TXDOT number below, for Texas trucks. Type both, preview on a door, order. $22.99 per decal.
A two-line decal for a Texas truck: USDOT on top and your TXDOT number underneath, printed as one solid rectangle. TXDOT is the old nickname for the intrastate operating authority certificate that the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles issues. This product is for carriers that show a USDOT number and a TXDOT number but no MC line, such as a business that only hauls inside Texas. Type both numbers, preview the decal on a truck door, then order.
Texas registers intrastate carriers with TxDMV, and the USDOT number still matters for that registration. The Transportation Code says a registered motor carrier must maintain an identification number issued by FMCSA, and the TxDMV application has to include it. TxDMV also says its intrastate certificate was formerly known as a TxDOT number, and that a USDOT number is an identifier rather than operating authority. A Texas intrastate truck can therefore carry two numbers that do different jobs. The TxDMV carrier page and the statute on registration have the wording, and our Texas DOT number guide walks through it.
The Texas Department of Public Safety lists the USDOT number and the carrier's legal name as the required markings for commercial motor vehicles with three or more axles, truck tractors and road tractors. Its summary does not list a TxDMV number for that group, so this decal does not claim the TXDOT line is required. Whether Texas expects the TxDMV number on the vehicle is a question for TxDMV or DPS, and we have not confirmed it. The name is the part this decal leaves out, so a separate name decal fills that gap. The DPS markings page has the full text.
Start with USDOT and your federal digits on top. The TXDOT line takes the number from your TxDMV certificate, copied exactly rather than taken from a USDOT or MC record. The builder sample is USDOT 1234567 over TXDOT 1234567, and each line takes up to 24 characters. Choose 12, 18 or 24 inches for the width. Background is White, Black, Yellow, Silver, Red or Blue, and lettering is Black, White, Red or Blue. At $22.99 per decal, or $45.98 for a Set of 2 covering the other door, the price does not change with width or color. The Contour cut is $5 per decal and cuts each line close around its own lettering. Install is DIY, and a tracking email comes one or two days after the order.
Shipping is $7.99 per order, free over $99, with tracking by email one or two days after you order. Install is DIY with a printed sheet and video link in the box. A 3-year guarantee covers a free replacement if it peels or comes off. Details: shipping, install, refunds and returns.
It is the old name for Texas intrastate operating authority. TxDMV says the intrastate certificate that staying in Texas requires was formerly known as a TxDOT number. This decal prints the number you type after the TXDOT label. It does not register your business, does not create any authority, and does not replace the USDOT line. The number itself comes from your TxDMV certificate.
TxDMV ties the MC number to interstate hauling and ties intrastate hauling to its own certificate. If your trucks only operate inside Texas, an MC line may not apply, and this two-line decal covers the USDOT and TXDOT numbers. If your trucks cross state lines for hire, the three-line USDOT, MC and TXDOT decal is the product for that. FMCSA decides when an MC number applies, so check its MC number page. Our who needs a USDOT number guide covers the intrastate cases.
Under Transportation Code 643.051, a motor carrier may not run a commercial motor vehicle, as defined in section 548.001, on a Texas road unless it is registered with TxDMV. That definition reaches vehicles with a gross, registered or rated weight above 26,000 pounds, vehicles designed or used for more than 15 passengers, and vehicles hauling placardable hazardous materials, with an exception for some farm vehicles. Interstate-only operations exempt under the Unified Carrier Registration Act fall outside chapter 643. Read the definition in section 548.001.
Texas law makes identifying markings on each side of the power unit a requirement for the covered trucks, and the Texas DPS page reproduces that section. The federal rule asks for both sides as well. Each decal is one piece for one side, so the Set of 2 at $45.98 gives you a matching pair. Ask DPS which wording covers your truck, since the Texas section has more than one part, and keep the answer with your paperwork.
No. This decal prints the USDOT and TXDOT numbers only. DPS lists the legal name as a required marking for the covered trucks, and the federal rule asks for the legal name or a single trade name on both sides as well. Add the name with a Company Name Decal for $18.99, or use the Company Name + USDOT Decal for $27.99 to put the name and USDOT number on one rectangle. Copy the name exactly as your registration lists it. Our company name guide covers the rules in more detail.
