USDOT, MC and CA numbers on three lines for a carrier with MC authority. Type all three, preview, order. $25.99 per decal.
Three numbers on one solid rectangle, for a carrier that holds MC operating authority and also runs under a California CA number. USDOT goes on top, MC in the middle and CA underneath. Every line is required on this product, so gather all three numbers before you start. Type them, preview the result on a truck door, and order.
The MC number is FMCSA's operating authority number, and FMCSA says it is often identified as an MC, FF or MX number depending on the type of authority granted. In general, companies that carry passengers for pay in interstate commerce, or haul federally regulated commodities owned by others for pay, are required to have that authority in addition to a USDOT number. A private carrier that hauls only its own cargo generally does not need it. Showing an MC number on the truck is a separate question. FMCSA says no marking requirement exists for it, so the MC line is information you choose to show. Read FMCSA's MC number page and its marking FAQ.
California adds a second layer for this product. An interstate carrier that wants to haul intrastate loads must get a Motor Carrier Permit, the CHP says, while a carrier that runs only in interstate commerce sits outside that program. The DMV uses the CA number as the permit number. So a carrier with MC authority that takes California intrastate work is in the group that needs the permit, and the CHP lets a valid USDOT number stand in for the CA number on the vehicle. The Caltrans page covers where the CA number goes, and the CA number guide explains the permit.
Each line is a label followed by digits. USDOT and your federal number go on top, MC and your operating authority number in the middle, and CA and your CA number underneath. The builder sample reads USDOT 1234567, MC 890123 and CA 512345, and each line holds up to 24 characters. Width is 12, 18 or 24 inches, and you choose from six background colors and four lettering colors. The federal rule asks for letters that contrast sharply with the background, so judge the contrast in the preview before you pay. The decal is $25.99, and a Set of 2 comes to $51.98. A Contour cut adds $5 per decal and cuts each line close around its own lettering. If you also need a weight line, the four-line decal at $28.99 adds a GVW line.
Shipping is $7.99 per order, free over $99, with tracking by email one or two days after you order. Install is DIY with a printed sheet and video link in the box. A 3-year guarantee covers a free replacement if it peels or comes off. Details: shipping, install, refunds and returns.
Three lines, and all three are required on this product: a USDOT line, an MC line and a CA line. The builder sample is USDOT 1234567, MC 890123 and CA 512345, and each line takes up to 24 characters. Nothing else prints, so there is no name, city or phone line. The decal costs $25.99, and the preview shows all three lines on a truck door before you pay. Check every digit against your registration and your CHP or DMV paperwork.
The federal marking rule asks for the legal name and the USDOT number on both sides of the vehicle. FMCSA says no marking requirement exists for an MC number, so the MC line is extra information. The rule also allows other identifying information on the vehicle if it is not inconsistent with what is required, as 49 CFR 390.21 says. Our USDOT number display rules summarize the federal wording, and the MC number on truck guide covers the MC question.
An interstate-only operation falls outside California's permit program, so the CA line belongs on the decal only if you hold a CA number. Do not add a CA line for a number you have not been issued, because the decal can only print a number you already hold. Whether any other number belongs on your truck is a question for the CHP and the DMV. The CHP's FAQ sets out the definitions.
Not according to FMCSA's April 2026 notice about its new registration system. The notice says stakeholders raised concerns about eliminating MC and FF docket numbers, and that the Phase II release of Motus will not include eliminating them. Check FMCSA's registration pages before you order if you hear something different, and read the Federal Register notice for the exact wording.
Use the legal name or single trade name listed on your Form MCS-150 registration, which is the form the federal marking rule names. This decal prints numbers only, so the name needs its own decal. A Company Name + USDOT Decal at $27.99 prints the name and USDOT number together, and a Company Name Decal at $18.99 prints the name alone. Our company name guide covers the name rules in more detail.
